Vogelbacher pitches immaculate inning, Post 53 wins season opener

Breckenridge Post 53 bludgeoned Barnesville Post 153, 12-2 on Monday in American Legion Baseball. Breckenridge jumped out in the first inning after an error scored a run, Paul Armitage drew a walk and Riley Kappes singled, scoring two runs.

Breckenridge added to its lead in the bottom of the third when Kappes drew a bases loaded walk and Logan Church supplied an RBI ground out.

Trey Vogelbacher earned the win for Breckenridge, allowing three hits and one earned run over five innings, striking out eight and walking none. 

Vogelbacher threw an immaculate inning in the second, striking out the side on nine pitches. Breckenridge didn’t commit a single error in the field and turned one double play in the season opener.

Alex Dorton took the loss for Barnesville. The hurler went two innings, surrendering eight runs (one earned) on just four hits.

Church led the Post 53 lineup with three RBIs from the No. 8 spot. The first baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Cooper Roberts paced Breckenridge with three hits. 

Brennan Kort, Logan Elhert, and Tyson Andersen each collected one hit for Barnesville. 

Breckenridge returns to B 92.7 and KBMW News Live Youtube in a 6:30 p.m. road game Tuesday at Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.
