Following a technical glitch involving Wahpeton’s film equipment, statistics are now available from last Friday’s 34-28 high school football loss at No. 5-ranked Devils Lake.
Sophomore quarterback Jack Gilbertson made his season debut, returning from a shoulder injury to lead the Huskies offense. Gilbertson completed 10 of 16 passes for 207 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. The dual-threat signal caller added 19 carries for 54 yards and a score.
Brayden Steffens was the recipient of Gilbertson’s aerial attack in the first half. The senior wide receiver caught three touchdowns before the break, and finished the game with six catches for a career-high 178 yards.
Steffens also had a stellar game on defense, making six tackles and intercepting a pass.
Senior running back Michael Petersen was limited to five carries due to game script, but still managed 35 yards rushing — giving him 236 ground yards through three games.
Petersen led the defense with nine tackles and a sack. Cayden Barth and Isaiah Bruechert contributed eight tackles apiece.
Wahpeton (0-3) hosts Bismarck St. Mary’s (0-3) in Friday’s homecoming game with a 6 p.m. pregame and 6:30 kickoff on AM 1450 and KBMW News Live YouTube.
