Gabe Armitage matched his TD total of the entire 2024 season with a three-score explosion in a 42-18 victory over 8AA foe Frazee on Friday at Cowboy Field.
The senior wingback was coming up for his team all night in the breakout showing and his first score was a short-yardage plunge to give the Cowboys the 14-12 lead at halftime. His second TD came on fourth down when he popped free on a play-action pass for a 47-yard score to keep his squad ahead. The final score came on an 18-yard burst with Armitage cutting it up through the defense.
Armitage got all of his receiving yards on his lone grab while also rushing for 65 yards on seven carries to go over 100 yards from scrimmage. The senior’s first TD of the season was a scoop-and-score in week one against Benson.
David Erlandson racked up 216 yards on only 13 totes. He came up with a short-yardage score and Joey Lopez got one of his own to put the final nail in the coffin of the 21-0 fourth quarter.
Junior QB Riley Kappes was 8-11 for 115 yards with a pair of TDs. Cooper Roberts hauled in one for a 12-yard score in the first quarter as he finished with 31 yards on four catches.
Levi Christensen was a first-down machine with 37 yards off three grabs while his fellow senior Charlie Kratcha broke free for 29 yards on a reverse to set up a score.
The Breckenridge defense forced two turnovers with Aidan Sanchez nabbed a pick before halftime and Henry Slettedahl recovered a fumble while the Hornets were in the red zone. The most impressive feat from the defense was stopping all of the Hornet two-point conversion attempts, keeping it a two-score game thoughout.
The 3-0 Cowboys hit the road to face the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines at 7 p.m. Friday.
